The industry lost another legend today, the “Godfather of Go-Go” Chuck Brown today while the music industry mourns.

The Go-Go genre lost one of their pioneers Chuck Brown after being hospitalized for pneumonia. His musical influences spawned many Hip-Hop samples. Not only was he a hit throughout the DMV (DC,Maryland, & Virginia) area, but the country as well.

His most recognizable hit was the 1978 single Bustin Loose which was successfully sampled in 2002. Nelly‘s platinum selling single Hot In Herre derived from Brown’s Go-Go driven beat

Brown was 75-years-old, he will be missed!

Being a New Yorker I didn’t have to read an article to find out the #2 train was the worst line in New York City, but recent analysis proved it’s one of New York‘s most unreliable lines!

According to the straphangers campaign, they analyzed 4.937 transit alert sent by the MTA. The data was divided into two areas: uncontrollable and controllable incidents. Uncontrollable alerts were caused by incidents like police activity and sick passengers.

Controllable alerts are classified as track issues, such as mechanical problems or the signal system. The Straphangers Campaign said there were 2,967 of them. Of those, 934 alerts were related to mechanical problems and 1,062 related to signals. The MTA systems signal is 75 years old.

Switches caused 408 alerts, rail conditions 291, track 254, power 15, and maintenance 3, according to the Campaign. If you’re a New Yorker, you don’t have to take a wild guess to anticipate what lines suffered the most!

When it came to controllable alerts, the 2 and 5 lines accounted for 8% alerts each. If there’s any good news for Bronx residents, the most controllable alerts occurred in Manhattan while the least were in the Bronx.

And never mind the delays, because as you ride these trains, you’ll get your daily dose of ratchetness during your delay. Ahh yes, the fresh smell of Chipotle as the passenger in front of you scarfs down his burrito bowl!

When a mother was confronted by a knife wielding criminal in Springfield Massachusetts her natural instincts kicked in, and those natural instincts were to RUN! Leaving her child with the attacker, the man threatened to harm her daughter had she not returned.

Fortunately, the child managed to get away (no help from her mother) as the woman was seen running back into the market for help. The man eventually ran off after being chased by onlookers, and the mother was reported as being ok after being stabbed in the collar-bone.

Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z is giving a brand new definition to “Daddy’s Little Girl”. That’s because during a recent admission on Oprah‘s Master Class, the proud father promised to spoil his little girl as much as possible. The episode will air tonight on the OWN network and Jay pulled no punches when it came to taking care of his daughter

“I imagine I’ll take things I learned from my mom and things I’ve learned from raising my nephews and apply that,” he acknowledged that his affection could affect his daughter’s lifestyle “Then at the end of the day, I just know I’ll probably have the worst, spoiled little kid ever.”

His one time rival Nas recently released a song titled Daughters which illustrated the affection fathers have for their little girls. I’m beginning to wonder if Jay listened to this?

Rather not wait on long lines? Well America’s Got Talent will be accepting YouTube submissions from now until June 1st.

The show will hand pick 20 applicants and the public will choose the top performer. Eleven other YouTube acts will compete in a live show in August for places in the semifinals.

Those acts will then face judges Howard Stern, Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne, and battle for the $1 million prize against acts that advanced from the early rounds of AGT.

It’s one of the most common urban accessories of our time. Dr. Dre‘s stylish headphones is not only a status statement but is it an invitation for robbery?

You’ve seen them in the streets, the stylish, oversized, overpriced headphones that urbanites are rocking as the newest fashion trend. However there’s been another trend as well, a trend of robberies. In New York City mainly, subway robberies has gone up. 

During the first quarter of 2012, there were a reported 232 robberies equating to a 31.8% bump. In addition, Grand Larceny statistics (theft of iPads & iPhones) had risen to 23.6% Despite public warning, strap hangers and young people still ignore the warnings and danger signs.

Just this weekend, a man was slashed in his neck in a failed robbery attempt after the suspect tried to take his Dr. Dre headphones. The video went viral on worldstarhiphop as onlookers gasped during the fight on the #4 train platform on Burnside Avenue in the Bronx. Click link below:

You would think with the rash of robberies consumers would be a bit more conservative or attentive when taking public transportation. An investigator for the NYPD Special Crime Unit was stated as saying “Wearing these headphones is a status symbol to criminals,” continuing with “You might as well wear a rob me sign when you’re wearing them.”

Marvel’s newest superhero movie made history this weekend smashing another box office record! Read how they dominated the competition:

It was a weekend for the record books as Marvel’s new superhero team exploded with their debut. The film was the biggest movie opening ever coming in at #1. It took in $200.3 million dollars domestically trumping the Harry Potter Finale: Deathly Hallows Part 2 which netted $169.2 million.

It comes as no surprise. Theaters across the country were sold out for an entire day. This included the popular IMAX and 3-D formats. Movie goers who were unhip to the “highly anticipated” movie were left out in the cold when they did not purchase advanced tickets.

The film featured an All-Star cast and for the comic fanatics, featured all their favorite childhood superheros all in one movie. The film was filled with action, comedy, and an interesting plot.

Marvel who’s known for leaving snippets at the end of the movie left movie goers salivating at the next Avengers movie.

It’s been a rough year for Lamar. After getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks, then deactivated, both Khloe & Lamar cancelled their highly anticipated 3rd season, but E! has plans on moving forward with Khloe even if it’s without Lamar!

Despite canceling a 3rd season of their show, E! is pursuing Khloe to continue her reality franchise with the network. According to TMZ,  ”they’re desperate to stay in business with her, and they’re already working on another spin-off.”

Sources are saying that Khloe is a HUGE draw and want to work on a spin-off to their  ”Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami” show. The Kardashians are a CASH COW for the network and paid them handsomely, $40 million bucks for future seasons.

If Lamar is not bringing home the bacon, somebody has to!

Knicks All-Star suffered more than a bruised ego after a game 2 loss to the Miami Heat. During a fit of rage, the forward displayed a lack of common sense that resulted in a serious injury.

This was the scene last night. A bandaged and bruised Amare Stoudemire was seen leaving the Heat arena after foolishly punching the casing that enclosed a fire extinguisher.

The Knicks failed to put out Miami’s flame and Stoudemire took his frustration out on the glass. It looks like it took a better hit than him because as a result, Stoudemire’s left hand requires stitches and he’s rumored to miss the rest of the playoffs.

In a display of shame, Stoudemire tweeted an apology to his fans and teammates. We all get upset and make mistakes, but to have such poor judgment and to do something so foolishly when your team needs you the most left many Knicks fans in a fit of rage!

In reality, this may be a good thing. In Stoudamire’s absence the Knicks went 9-4 with Carmelo Anthony moving to the power forward position. The Knicks return home for Game 3 on Thursday and this may just be the spark they need to get back in the series.

Although Anthony has yet to find a way to co-exist while Stoudamire is on the court, this may be the perfect remedy seeing Melo has put the Knicks on his shoulder in the past.

Nothing is more important to a New Yorker than their time. After discovering this handy app, you’ll find your ride on the subway will not only save you time, but keep you in the know!

This handy little doo hickey is chocked full of useful features. If you’re a New Yorker and ride the subway, nothing’s more annoying than arriving at the station and just missing your train. What’s even more annoying is learning about delays after waiting 15 minutes on the platform. Ugh!

Well stress no more New York City residents! This new app not only tells you the time of your arriving train, but alerts you of delays ahead of time.

There’s a list of options that allows you to browse all subway lines viewing their departure and arrival times at any given station. As if that wasn’t enough, you can set your most traveled lines to “Favorites” and be alerted to delays and the given train schedule.

The app also includes the MTA subway map useful for when you don’t feel like traveling to the middle of the platform to reference your location.

When I tell you this app is GOD SENT believe it to be true! Although the app will cost $2.99 to some Apple subscribers, there are free versions available.

HELLO BROOKLYN! The Nets make their introduction to NYC and I have to admit the new logo could be one of New York’s latest fashion trends!

The newly named “Brooklyn Nets” made their unveiling today and the only thing better on their roster is the new apparel they’ll be rocking on their backs!

Across the street from the $1 Billion Dollar Barclays Center, Brook Lopez and Head Coach Avery Johnson helped usher in a New Era (and that included fitted’s).

“Hello Brooklyn,”‘ center Brook Lopez said. “I’ve been waiting a long time to say that. It’s very exciting.” and so have many New Yorkers.

The apparel comes from the brain child of part owner and hip-hop mogul Jay-Z. The design is clean. No over saturated colors or design  patterns and comes in black, white, and shades of grey.

Jay-Z known for rocking the Yankee fitted and setting trends, famously pinned the verse

“I made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can.” -Empire State

So he should have no problem converting the masses from New York City’s preferred head gear.

In its first day, apparel flew off the shelves and sporting goods stores are already backordered on future shipments. Brooklyn is New York City’s BIGGEST and most repped borough.

Personally if you’re not a Net fan or Brooklyn resident, I don’t think you should rock it, but the new style will have new fans screaming:
