Miami rapper Rick Ross gets a SEAL OF APPROVAL from MTV, but why are the fans consistently left in the cold!?!

Whether you agree or disagree, M-I-A BIG MAN, Rick Ross has another reason to call himself a boss! That’s because an MTV panel decided that he’s the Hottest MC In The Game.

MTV compiled their annual list of Hottest Rappers and there’s always controversy when these things come out. In fairness, their list is often determined by a year’s worth of record sales, consistency and overall influence. In saying that, it may help you understand why they come to their decision. However, there will always be the nay sayers who will disagree with the picks.

Understandable seeing Jay-Z made #6 having one of the hottest albums Watch the Throne in 2011. But their list isn’t about when an album dropped and how many units it pushed. As some of the MTV aficionado proved, overall influence was the key in their decision making:

“You wouldn’t even know that he didn’t have an album out [early last year], because he was all over the radio,” on Rick Ross via Rahman Dukes, director of hip-hop news at MTV News.

Although I respect the decision made by the MTV Staff, I understand the frustration illustrated by some of Hip-Hop’s peers and fans. First there’s just too many lists to keep up with when outlets like BET, FUSE, and other present theirs. In addition, I don’t think such a title should be decided by a room full of MTV staffers. Especially by a raise of hands.

A decision like this is BIGGER than a room full of employees. Where are the people that matter in all of this? WHERE ARE THE FANS? What bothers me the most is when the magazines or the television networks release the list, there’s NEVER any decisions made by the fans.

I mean that’s why these MC’s are hot isn’t it? Who’s buying the albums? Who’s downloading the mixtapes? I respect anyone who sits at a panel or has a highly circulated magazine due to sheer experience. However, you CANNOT omit the one aspect of why these rappers are successful!

In my opinion these decisions should be one part Hip-Hop panel, one part fans. They should have a say at who they’re putting at the #1 spot, because in the reality of it all, Hip-Hop is bigger than just 9 people who sit at a desk!

It’s Valentines Day and you spent all your money on that special gift for your significant other, no money for condoms? That’s ok, because this new App got you covered, LITERALLY!

The New York City Department of Health announced Tuesday that it has released a new app that will help New Yorkers find free condoms. The announcement came on the BIGGEST day known for “baby making” and is available on all smart phones.

The city has realized we live in a digital era and is continuing to raise awareness. They came up with the idea to make free condoms more accessible.

“New Yorkers are mobile, so we need to reach them both with sexual health information and easy access to service information wherever they are,”  Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley

The app operates off a GPS system that will direct users to over 1,000 centers that gives out Lifestyles brand condoms for free.

“We distributed well over 36 million male condoms and 1 million female condoms last year,” said Farley.

The move not only promotes safe sex, but allows users to save hundreds of dollars on condoms as well. It’s good to know the Health Department has this thing all wrapped up!

Apartheid activist and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela gets honored in a new way, his face will now appear on South African currency!

They say only dead Presidents appear on currency, well this former President is alive and kicking! The Apartheid revolutionist who spent part of his life in prison has been rewarded in the highest honor. Mandela’s face now appears on the $50 bill of South African money.

Current South African President Jacob Zuma made the announcement this weekend. The honor was for his efforts during the Apartheid movement. Mandela fought against racial segregation that ruled South Africa for many years.

Saturday’s date also coincided with the 22nd anniversary of Mandela’s release from prison after serving 27 years in jail for his opposition to white-only rule. According to Reuters,  the bills featuring  Mandela, who became South Africa’s first democratically elected president in 1994, will be in circulation by the end of the year.

Zuma stated, ”It is a befitting tribute to a man who became a symbol of this country’s struggle for freedom, human rights and democracy. With this humble gesture, we are expressing our deep gratitude as the South African people, to a life spent in service of the people of this country and in the cause of humanity worldwide.”

When it comes to Hip-Hop, The Grammys always has a place for it…..BACKSTAGE! Here’s a list of Pre-Grammy winners you didn’t see!

Every year the Grammys seem to mess up the Rap category. When I saw Wiz Khalifa‘s Black & Yellow (mind you the song is like 3 years old) as a nominee, I immediately knew they were out of touch at what’s going on in Hip-Hop.

Granted it was a dry year for the genre, but we did get good albums from the likes of J Cole. He was nominated for Best New Artist (which went to Bon Iver, You Say What Now?), some of Hip-Hop’s greatest talents were snubbed yet again. What they did instead is take the most IDENTIFIABLE figures in Hip-Hop (Jay-Z & Kanye) and give them awards.

The most highly anticipated photos of the year were released today and find out what made Jay-Z and Beyoncé go from PRIVATE to PUBLIC!

HIp-Hop Royalty: Jay-Z & Beyoncé has the whole world in their hands, so it comes as no surprise that they didn’t need to pawn off pictures of their newborn child for millions.

But just why did Jay & Bey release them for free?

Through Tumbler and LifeAndTimes.com the couple gave the world a FREE preview of their newborn daughter, and all because we respected their privacy. Who knew that a little space would gain such a HIGH REWARD!

The pics were taken at Lenox Hill Hospital moments after the infant was born into the world. Proud PaPa Jay hasn’t smiled this big since his last Blueprint album. What’s remarkable is how much Blue Ivy Carter resembles Beyoncé!

With all the photo shopped pictures that were circulating, let’s not act like we weren’t relieved she didn’t inherit her father’s signature features!

No your eyes are not deceiving you. Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48 according to confirmed sources.

Both her publicist and TMZ has announced the passing of R&B icon Whitney Houston.  The singer died this afternoon according to the Associated Press. Whitney who battled drugs for several years with ex husband Bobby Brown was often criticized for her erratic behavior.

Houston won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards during her record-breaking career. Her album “Whitney” was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts. She has sold 200 albums world-wide.

It’s been only two months and the African-American community has already lost three legends. Etta James was the first after battling a year-long illness. Soul Train creator Don Cornelius took his life at the beginning of the month after a troubled divorce and illness.

Houston leaves behind one child Bobbi Kristina. I can only imagine the pain her friends and family must be feeling right now.

Gisele Bundchen felt the pain consoling her husband Tom Brady after the Patriots loss yesterday, but she had some choice words for hecklers on her way to the elevator! 

The Insider got exclusive footage of Gisele Bundchen as she left her suite at Lucas Oil Stadium. After a fan heckled Bundchen saying “Eli owns your husband” she replied:

“You (have) to catch the ball when you’re supposed to catch the ball,” Gisele snapped. “My husband cannot (bleeping) throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.” 

Although I can’t stand the Patriots, I’m with her on this one. Football is a team sport, and no one likes an unruly fan!
