Common Confirms Drake Diss: Hip-Hop’s Next Big Beef?

It’s looking like the Common and Drake beef is escalating. During an interview with Sway this morning, Common confirmed that his diss track ‘Sweet’ is about Drake!
We all know the world of Hip-Hop can be competitive. With shots being thrown, subliminal on tracks, it all can be viewed as tongue & cheek. However when you’re disrespected so many times, when is enough enough? You know things has gotten bad when Common starts dissing you.
The track Sweet off Common’s new album The Believer The Dreamer is a raw, hard-hitting diss track. Before admitting it, we all knew who he was talking about….Drake!!! During an interview with Sway on Sirius Shade45 radio, Common admitted that shots were fired at Drake.
Verse from Sweet:
“Y’all n—as man, you soft m—-f—kers. Yeah my man, m—-f—ker. Then come around my crib. You know where I’m from. Some ho ass n—as. Singing all around me man, la la la! You ain’t m—-f—king Frank Sinatra. Uh, lil’ bitch. Yeah, this the raw right here! This the raw right here n—a. Sweet m—-f—ker! Sweet ass bitch muthafucka!”

There’s no question that Common is making reference to Drake, we didn’t need confirmation for that. But what we need confirmation on is where’s all this coming from? Both are allegedly tied to tennis superstar Serena Williams, but apparently Drake threw a shot that ticked Common off.
Common: Aye, he opened his mouth and said some things*, so if that’s what he wants. All that sublimal, you might as well say it now….
The verse is about me, but when you hear some of the stuff on the chorus, you can’t help but think about dude, I guess. And that’s what he felt. So yeah. At the end of the day, you fit in that category. He already embraced it, so wear it.
Common: He’s a very successful artist obviously. He’s a very talented artist too, I give credit where it’s due….but any artist can be a target…it’s just about mc-ing, when you step in there, you in the ring, baby. Especially if you say you’re the greatest. I’m on “Sweet” saying I’m the greatest too…
Common is entitled to his opinion and he can cover it up by saying “Its just Hip-Hop”, but we know it’s a PR move to prevent violence. Common hasn’t been in the midst of a battle since his beef with Ice Cube.
Remember that?

Ice Cube and Westside connection take offense to the song I Use To Love H.E.R responds with Westside Slaughterhouse, Common makes a diss record I See The Bitch In Yoo, they make up, go on to make family films, and everyone lives happily ever after.
The point I’m trying to make is rap beef is so convenient. It always appears right around the time an album drops. It’s also a great way to stay relevant. So does Common has a legitimate issue with Drake or is this all album hype?

Whatever it is, the time has come for Drake to make an example out of someone. I’m not promoting violence, but if it comes to that, do what you have to do. It took Jay-Z to disrespect Nas before he earned the ULTIMATE HIP-HOP approval after dropping Ether.
It comes to the point where being called a “Hoe” or “Bitch” reaches the ultimate level of disrespect and it goes beyond the realm of Hip-Hop. This isn’t about singing on records, or contributions to Hip-Hop, it’s about defending your manhood.
And Drake, you have a lot of defending to do!
