Black TV Stars Who Should’ve Hooked Up!

Growing up, I’ve witnessed some of the best black television sitcoms of my time. I also would wonder with the fictional beef between some characters was it the perfect recipe for a real life romance?

If you’re a fan of Martin like I am, then you know there wasn’t a bigger beef between Martin and Pam. Played by Martin Lawrence and Tichina Arnold, the chemistry was anything but. Pam was the best friend of Martin’s girlfriend Gina, and the two were always going at it. But I’ve had this discussion plenty of times before. What if these two hooked up?

Whether they did in real life or not is debatable. But what I do know is between the fictional beef, commitment to the characters has to form some real life chemistry. I mean Tichina has everything a black man would want, Sass, Class, and all that Ass! Who’s to say that Martin wasn’t having any real life thoughts about dipping into that chocolate. You do know opposites tend to attract!

Another one of my childhood favorite’s was The Cosby Show. Bill Cosby played Heathcliff Huxtable the successful doctor and Phylicia Rashad played the attorney and his wife. Although the story was fictional (I never knew a black successful couple personally) I loved the shows values.

However there was an observation as I got older that I just couldn’t ignore. I don’t know about you guys, but something tells me that these two were getting it on. Different from Martin and Pam, Cosby and Rashad had a chemistry that was so strong that it could have easily spawned an affair. I remember as a kid I would literally think the both of them were a real couple.

I couldn’t help but think while real life husband Ahmad Rashad was out covering basketball games, was Bill scoring buckets with his wife! Hey, don’t act like I’m the only one that thought this!

The Jefferson’s were black people’s hope growing up during the 80′s. I remember watching George Jefferson and marveling at him being able to become an established businessman and get out the ghetto. I also remember the back and forth banter he had with his maid Flo.

Played by Marla Gibbs, Florence gave back whatever George dished out. I often wondered if the opportunity presented itself would Sherman Hemsley knock down Marla Gibbs, I mean why not? They say every black man needs a strong black woman and if that’s the case then Florence was the perfect candidate. I don’t know much about their ‘real life’ affairs and what would make them compatible, but it was something I often thought about.

So this is one I OUTRIGHT felt should’ve happened. Before BET’s The Game and Marques Houston’s R&B career, the trio starred on a show called Sister Sister. Houston played the annoying friend/neighbor Roger to the Mowry twins. Yes he was a bit of a geek on the show, but in real life he was turning out to be an R&B’s favorite.

So what I would often wonder was, did Houston ever try to make a move on either of the twins in real life? I mean his chances were greater since there were two of them. He also had enough time on the set in getting to know them. So some type of chemistry had to form.

In a 2010 interview with Vibe, Houston stated that his character was the total opposite of himself:

Roger was the complete opposite of me. I used to really tell people that that was my twin brother. I was so different from him because Roger was a nerdy guy who couldn’t get girls and he was goofy. I was the complete opposite. I was the ladies man in school. I always had friends, people looked up to me. When I was seven, my two best friends were 12, they looked up to me, I was the leader so it was completely opposite. Roger was totally a character.

So you couldn’t use some of that swag to bag one of the twins huh?
