FOX Mogul Rupert Murdoch Launches “The Daily”: First iPad Only Digital Newspaper!!!

“New Times demands New Journalism” a quote by FOX business mogul Rupert Murdoch as he launched the world’s first digital newspaper exclusively for the iPad yesterday. The question is, will this be the death of the traditional newspaper?

In groundbreaking news, the News Corp Chairman and CEO announced that it has developed a digital newspaper titled The Daily. The paper will be available to users for 99 cents weekly. It will feature local and global news stories including gossip and entertainment. It will also provide video and a read back feature for iPad subscribers.

By his own admission, he wants to take traditional journalism and combine it with the “best of contemporary technology.” The bigger question is: Will it work? Every decade, we are introduced with some sort of technological advancement that makes our lives easier. It appears that the way we receive and send our news will be no different.

With the availability of app’s and sharing via social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, Murdock and Apple has taken the next step in how we receive our news. With over 15 million Apple iPad’s in use, both companies are hoping to capitalize on this digital media.

Will there be a time when we’ll stop using newspaper all together? I’ll be the first to tell you that due to the availability of news on the internet, I haven’t brought a newspaper in the last three years. Ultimately the public will be the deciding factor on whether this new technology will be embraced.

If it takes off, Rupert Murdock and News Corp will be in the forefront yet again.
